I bought this because I liked the idea of carrying a one-piece/two-piece flail style weapon. I always liked the idea of being able to unscrew or twist a baton and it becomes two things.
The GOOD: This thing is incredibly heavy, far more heavy than the pics would have you believe. And I mean heavy, like carrying a brick around. The build quality is very good, with no binding or cross-threading. The chain is sturdy and well made. The end cap is also very heavy and will do MAJOR damage if it hits somebody at speed. The end cap also has a pointed end that doesn't look like much, but if you "punch" it into someone, the weight and force quickly turns it into a serious (but not deadly) stabber. With practice can work well as a small truncheon or hand baton, packing some serious weight behind the strikes.
The BAD; This thing is HEAVY - you really need to give considerable thought to how and where you will carry it. Pocket carry is totally out of the question and if you put it in a bag, it will quickly drop to the bottom and get lost. EDC carry is NOT an option in any scenario. You will be "lugging" this thing around wherever you go. The carry case is virtually worthless - its so flimsy as to almost be a joke. Cheap, poorly made and out of balance for the item it is supposed to carry. There is a point on one end of the baton - at some point (no pun) it WILL rip through the cheap fabric of the sheath if you intend to carry it that way. It is noisy - the chain rattles around inside like a bunch of ball bearings. No stealth with this thing. Slow to deploy as a mace-style weapon - only good if you have about 30sec - minute to unscrew the top.
All in all, this is not a bad truncheon, assuming you have the training (and strength) to use it effectively. Solid, well made, durable and built-for-purpose. Use as a mace will take quite a bit more practice and skill, but the option is there is you want it - again, solid, well made and durable in that configuration as well.
I give this a 5-star rating because I didn't buy it for the sheath (didn't even know one came with it) and was expecting to look into other carry methods anyway. The 5-stars is for the product itself and it's incredible build quality.
